The Future of Our Past
Watching the construction crews building the replica Keepers Cottage Museum on the lighthouse grounds, I am awe-struck at how far the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse Foundation has come over the past ten or so years.
Some of these accomplishments warrant reiterating (or bragging about!) —
- From no public access (meaning no tours) to regularly scheduled tours
- From no education program to a vibrant partnership with Brevard County Public
Schools, seeing more than twenty 4th grade classes visit the lighthouse during the
last school year.
- From events at the lighthouse grounds being the rare exception to events at the
lighthouse occurring at least quarterly.
- From a dream of a Keepers Cottage Museum being an architect’s drawing to crews
on site actually building that Keepers Cottage Museum. (Many, many thanks to the
Brevard County TDC and to the State of Florida for funding that museum!)
And as I consider the new, vibrant faces mixed in with the seasoned veterans of our CCLF Board, I am wholly encouraged that the future of our past is in very, very good hands. If you haven’t been out to see the activity on site, please come out and take a look!
See you at the Lighthouse!
