The Lighthouse needs your help!

As we celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse, we are overjoyed to be a part of the preservation team for this amazing and iconic lighthouse. Few people, even locals, understand that, without this lighthouse, Brevard County would not be home to the Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station or Port Canaveral! (When the government needed a place from which to safely launch their early, oversized experimental rockets, someone noticed an obscure government-owned parcel of land jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean. That parcel of land was Cape Canaveral and it was government-owned because our lighthouse was there!)

So why, during this 150th Celebration, do we need your help? Very simply: Preservation of our lighthouse and its history. Funding dollars are precious, and there are many deserving entities and causes out there. Some are funded and others fall by the wayside, disappearing with the memories of the old timers who cherish them.

What makes the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse deserving of your support? This unique lighthouse stands as a reminder of who we are as a people, as a society, and reflects not only light, but the very values which have sustained us over the centuries. It has guided adventurers from early mariners to modern day astronauts. It stands as an iconic reminder that “light”, “safety” and “home” are somehow synonymous. It is inspirational to young and old alike.
