This Foundation, in conjunction with the United States Air Force 45th Space Wing, is on the precipice of opening this historical site up for the general public and restoring the surrounding grounds to what they once were. The Wing Commander has worked closely with the Foundation and, on behalf of the Air Force, has agreed to the following:
· The Air Force has purchased a bus and hired two tour coordinators to provide free tours three times a week of Cape Canaveral Launch facilities, restored launch vehicles, history of the Cape, 45th Space Wing functions, and a visit to the lighthouse.
· Selling inscribed bricks surrounding the lighthouse and leading to each of the Cottages for $150 each. “Be A Part of History”
· Providing a crushed shell walkway from the parking area directly to the Lighthouse. (Just received nearly $10,000 from the Florida Lighthouse Association to construct this walkway).
· Remodel the inside lighthouse first level utilizing Boy Scout volunteers.
Note: Work has already commenced on the above four projects
-
· Reconstruction of the three Keepers Cottages.
- The first will be an Air Force Conference Center.
- The second will house a museum and educational center focusing on
the early settlers and Pioneers on the Cape and to educate children on
the rich history of the Lighthouse and the Cape.
- The third will house an archeological section and the Store, more
commonly known as the “Keepers Closet”. There is much history to be told
about the Native Americans dating back for centuries.
-
· Move the Keepers Closet (Gift Shop) from the Cape Cafeteria to Hangar C, next to the Lighthouse.
· Air Force will build a foot bridge over the gully between the lighthouse and Hangar C.
· Landscaping, including installation of Picnic Tables and Benches.
