The Florida Lighthouse Association (FLA) awarded the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse Foundation (CCLF) its first grant in October 2011. The grant for $9,830 was submitted by CCLF for a shell and river rock walkway from the parking lot to the oil storage facility to access the lighthouse. The former walkway was unbalanced due to layers of mulch and sod and the borders were deteriorating causing trip hazards for the visitors. The crushed shell and river rocks that were used are indigenous to the Cape and were used during the lighthouse keepers’ era.

The funds given by FLA are provided by the sale of lighthouse license plates of which $25 from each sale goes toward the preservation and restoration of Florida lighthouses. CCLF extends its sincerest thanks to FLA for the grant and continued support.

The Annual Membership Meeting was held on Saturday, June 18, and went very
smoothly, thanks to our wonderful volunteers. Jim Roche, our Security Coordinator,
was emcee and planned an interesting program. CCLF President Bob Merrilees
introduced Board members. Brig. Gen. Ed Wilson gave some opening remarks
and highlighted our Brick Project for re-building the Lighthouse Keepers brick
walkways and cottages. Keynote speaker was Clifford McNulty, a former Coast
Guard Lighthouse Keeper. After the program, and shopping for new items at the
Keepers Closet gift shop, the buses transported everyone to the original “Old Site”
of the Lighthouse near the ocean. Then on to the Lighthouse present location where
climbing to the 5th level was enjoyed.

Be a part of history….
The walkways from the Keepers’ Cottages to the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse are being bricked in a historically accurate manner and you can be a part of this exciting project.
Purchase a brick and the light will shine on your name in perpetuity.

PROJECT: The Keeper”s Walkway project is being developed to raise funds to build brick walkways connecting the Keeper’s cottage sites to the lighthouse. Every visitor walks this path to tour the lighthouse. The 45th Space Wing and the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse Foundation want the visitors steps to be a part of history by having their names engraved on the bricks along the walkway. Your purchase may be made in honor or memory of a loved one.
All donations are tax deductible.

You can participate in the walkway project through the Lighthouse web site by visiting The Keeper’s Walkway page, or download and complete the form included in the Keeper’s Walkway brochure.
